Educated at Marlborough College, Wilts and Edinburgh University. Mark 'fudged' his age to join the Naval Air Branch (or Fleet Air Arm) in WWII. He found the Atlantic too cold, so applied for and was granted a transfer to the Pacific. He was demobilised at Trimcomalee, Ceylon in 1947. He played rugby for Ceylon. Writing in 1994, Mark said he had been chairman of a large company in Sri Lanka with planting interests for 17 years before retiring in 1986. He adds "I still have substantial planting interests in India, and am currently about to construct 2 championship golf courses, 2 hotels, a leisure centre and a marina on a magical peninsular in the Victoria Reservoir, 20 minutes from Kandy." He enjoyed returning to Sussex each June once the cricket season had started, and he would return to Ceylon once the leaves started to fall. |

The following is taken from the internet (2011) describing the Kirchhayn Bungalow, Aislaby Estate, Bandarawela, Sri Lanka. This beautiful property was originally home to Mark & Lif Bostock, third generation British tea planters, who until 1973 occupied the bungalow and managed the surrounding estate. The bungalow is still owned by the family who ran it as a modest guest house until recently when it under went a major renovation to turn it into a delightful boutique hotel steeped in history (see below). |
