He was the first male white child born in New Milford. He lived in the North part of the town and kept a tavern there for many years. He was a prominent citizen and was Deputy to the General Assembly in May 1753, October 1754, October 1755 and October 1761. In May 1754 he was appointed Lieutenant of the First Militia Company in the town.

His estate on his death amounted to £699, but the estate was held to be insolvent and so sold. The sale proceeds amounted to £476:3:4, debts £803:15:8, and his creditors received 10/6 in the pound. His will had this nice amalgam of bequests to his wife "... a third part of his real estate, one good feather bed with a bolster and two pillows, with three coverlids, three pairs of sheets, and three pairs of pillow cases, and one good cow, and six good sheep, and also one old chest with one drawer in it; all the above articles of personal estate to be her own property for ever."
