Master builder and tavern keeper. He visited Auburn, NY in 1798, and built a house there, returned to his former home in Whitestone, NY, and moved with his family to Auburn in February 1799, having made the journey by sleigh, and soon converted his home to a tavern. He proved to be the most stirring and energetic man of the town. He took the lead in all important measures of that early day, and assisted in the achievement of many public works.
