He took Holy Orders and was admitted a Deacon in New Brunswick, NJ by the Bishop of New Jersey in 1825. He appears to have had a number of placements in New York State. GBFA mentions the town of Bath as a center, a district 50 miles wide in diameter, with these picturesque names: PennYan, Wayne, Tyrone, Hopeton, Pleasant Valley, Painted Post, Prattstown, Jerusalem, Dresden, and Bologna.

In the following years his area was extended. He gave up his Church at Bath in 1829 and in the early 1840's moved West to do missionary work. In 1842 he moved with his family to Joliet. GBFA concludes "There he continued labour in his accustomed field and performed much missionary work in addition to his stated services at Joliet, until his death. He was not a brilliant scholar nor a popular preacher, but he had the elements of a useful clergyman; studious, diligent, devout, and gave himself to the work of his calling."

He is listed by the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
